On the present and future.
Have you seen the news on LG tv’s spying on you? This is a topic I have been interested in for a long while, and seems to run very deep through all aspects of modern life. I certainly don’t have any authority on the subject but I would like to propose my casual thoughts and theories on it here.
So as for what is proven: every social media is monitoring your posts, your messages, what you click on, who you are friends with, most everything you do on the platforms. Your TV’s are spying constantly with the microphones inside your remotes, as well as scanning everything displayed, for example HDMI or screenshare inputs, transcribing, indexing, and storing the data, and though they usually only send the data on wifi, from what I understand they seem to have a way to send this information to your router, even without a wifi connection. I assume piggybacking off of other devices, maybe through bluetooth 5.1? But more likely something different.
Cameras are being set up on the roads, on doorbells, and a law will be passed soon to require a camera pointed at drivers on all cars made after this year. And none of it is private all of this data can be bought and sold. At some point in the process, machines scan and sort all this data to put together a perfect picture of you.
Crawlers are even indexing this webpage, right now. Spooky, huh?
Now for what I speculate:
So this is concerning for a lot of reasons, but one way I haven’t seen talked about is propaganda. I imagine the use for all this data long term would be a perfect propaganda machine.
Most people only use Instagram, Facebook, Tikttok, and Youtube for their information. Now these companies all are very right leaning, with LLM’s becoming widespread, and open ai being the driving force, it is an entirely right wing internet.
Now imagine a political message that someone would want to spread in the media, maybe back in the day propaganda was a poster or movie that appealed to a specific minority of the public, but now that they can find out every single thing about you, it is possible to put together the perfect plan to get you to subscribe to their beliefs.
Propaganda that is invisible, only puts out a small idea once and awhile, knowing exactly how comfortable you are with it because it can read every message, watch every show, it knows every insecurity and every triumph you have had. A machine like that could make anyone believe anything, and I don’t think most people would ever know it is happening.
I am not saying that these are the end days or anything, but I am saying that we are at a very interesting point where I feel, more than ever, that a dystopia is now a choice.
I hope you will fight on the side of peace and humanity, by way of decentralization, knowledge, and constantly staying on your toes. I think it will only get harder as the profiles on us get more and more detailed, and the gaps will get filled whether we opt in or not, though I believe in our individual power to at the very least slow it down.

A lot of this reminds me of the colonel at the end of MGS2. If we are not aware of the ways in which we are being manipulated, if we don't seek out the qualifications to exercise free will, then we can never truly have it.

P.S. I was thinking a lot about wifi, how routers have eyes, and how your ISP can control so much about you, especially through the router being provided by the ISP. Nasty stuff. Maybe just having a good phone plan and using a hotspot is better. It seems very very slightly better. At the cost of convinience of course.
